Red, White & BOOM! Continues "Green" Tradition

Red, White & BOOM! in partnership with Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Rumpke Recycling is "Going Green" for the 2010 event, continuing the recycling option, after a 633 percent increase from 2008 to 2009.

The event will once again feature 250 recycling containers throughout the area. The 96-gallon wheeled carts are green and easily identified by the bright yellow lid with a hole cut in the top (pictured below). People in attendance can recycle the same materials as they do at home in their recycling bins, including:Aluminum cans; plastic bottles #1-7; paper such as programs, newspapers, magazines and beverage cartons; napkins; plastic utensils; plastic plates and Styrofoam.

2009 Recycling Results

*10.99 tons were recovered as recyclable material, or 21,980 pounds.

* We visually estimated half of the recycling (5.495 tons, or 10,990 pounds) consisted of beverage containers of some type (metal, glass, plastic) and the other half being mostly paper and cardboard of varying types.

* Assuming approximately 45 beverage containers per pound, that equates to more than 494,000 beverage containers recovered -- nearly a half-million beverage containers!

* The 10.99 tons recycled accounts for 35.3 percent of all trash and recycling generated at BOOM!

* In 2008, we recycled about 1.5 tons, or 3,000 pounds, which was about 10 percent of the total

Thanks to everyone who did their part at Red, White & BOOM! to help the environment.
